Public call for tenders for general cargo transport between Flores and Corvo launched
The notice concerning the public call for tenders for the regular operation of general cargo transport services between Flores and Corvo was published today in the Official Gazette in accordance with the public service obligations published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
The tender provides the operation of services for a three year period that may be extended for another year. The contracts works have a base price of 1.4 million Euros and a deadline for submission of proposals of sixty days.
For the Regional Secretary for Economy, Luísa Schanderl, "this is another step in the quiet revolution undertaken by the Regional Government in the regional maritime transport system, which, in this case, will significantly improve the quality of the services rendered to Corvo islanders.
One should recall that public service obligations for the island of Corvo include maritime links between Flores and Corvo on a weekly basis - at least two times a week - during the year and additional links whenever there is a shortage of essential goods, particularly food and hygiene products, feed, gas and fuels.
According to Luísa Schanderl, "the construction of the maritime transport model for passengers and cargo implemented by the Government already evidences some interventions that have been carried out such as the opening of the Horta cruise terminal last weekend. The construction of roll on/roll off ramps and the new vessels for passenger and vehicle transport to operate in the ports of "Triangle" islands (Pico, Faial and S. Jorge) are some examples of the interventions carried out by the Government."
