Regional Secretary for the Economy invited to the Holy Spirit Festivities in New England
The Regional Secretary for the Economy, Vasco Cordeiro, will participate in the Holy Spirit Festivities in New England at the invitation of the organising commission.
These festivities, which celebrate their 25th anniversary this year, will take place in the city of Fall River, USA, between August 25 and 29. The Regional Secretary had already been the guest of honour in last year’s festivities.
The Regional Secretary for the Economy considered that these “celebrations are based on the hallmarks of religion and tradition of Azorean emigrants, who have not forgotten their roots.”
Stressing the fact that this initiative is celebrating its 25th anniversary, “which demonstrates the vitality of the Azorean community rooted in North America,” Vasco Cordeiro considered that this is “a moment when Azorean emigrants coming from different places not only recall the Azores they left, but also the desire of return to a place that is on the path of modernisation and quality of life.”
The organising commission of the Holy Spirit Festivities in New England was distinguished this year with an autonomic commendation of civic merit, “which also evidences the contribute to keep alive regional traditions and to assert the name of the Azores among the host countries of emigrant communities, particularly in the United States of America.”
