The island of Terceira will now have, starting next January, direct freight service to Mainland Portugal, announced the Regional Secretary for the Economy in Praia da Vitória on Tuesday morning.
Speaking to the press after a work meeting with representatives from Box Lines, Transinsular and Mutualista Açoreana, Vasco Cordeiro said that this service "will operate on a fortnightly basis," which will significantly contribute to the visibility of Terceira." In fact, “we provide the best possible response to its export capacity, thus reinforcing the export capacity of regional economy."
According to the Regional Secretary for the Economy, the operation of this service between Terceira and Mainland Portugal "is the result of several efforts undertaken by the Azorean Government in order to raise the awareness of shipowners for the importance of enhancing Terceira's visibility, which was also an aspiration of the island's main entities."
With regard to the advantages resulting from this decision, Vasco Cordeiro emphasised "the reduction of the transport time of goods delivered or despatched from Terceira to Mainland Portugal. I think this measure will have a significant impact on the regional export capacity," concluded the Regional Secretary.
