Tourist guides are fundamental for the development of tourism in the Azores, stated the Regional Secretary for the Economy, Vasco Cordeiro, in Ponta Delgada on Monday.
The Secretary spoke, on behalf of the President of the Government, during the ceremony to celebrate the World Tourist Guide Day, which was organised by the Azores Guide Association, and considered that “the acknowledgement of the importance of this activity is a reality as it confirmed by the fact that the Government has recently submitted to the Parliament a proposal to regulate this profession.”
“This document has been discussed with the professionals of the sector and it is a good balance for this profession as well as to the necessity of meeting some specific rules, but this is also a sign of the recognition we want to instil in this occupation,” added the Vasco Cordeiro.
For the Regional Secretary for the Economy,” this joint effort between official entities and these professionals of the tourism sector, who have alerted for some specific aspects, also help the development of the tourism sector and its growing assertion.”
Vasco Cordeiro reminded that the activity “developed by these professionals is fundamental for the successful assertion and development of the tourism sector.” Bringing tourists to the Region is not enough, it is also important to create a good impression so that they may return or promote the Region.
Hence, this profession is closely related to our visitors and, in this context, it is vital to create that good impression.”
