The Caldeira Velha Interpretation Centre on São Miguel Island will be closed for visits between January 19 and February 9 in order to carry out the cleaning, maintenance and improvement of this protected area.
The interventions to be carried out in Caldeira Velha Natural Monument will solve critical situations resulting from the landslides that occurred in December. They also aim to adapt the new management model to be implemented by the Society for Environmental Management and Nature Conservation - AZORINA from February 10, the data scheduled for reopening to the public.
The Natural Monument of Caldeira Velha was classified in 2004 and has been part of São Miguel Natural Park since 2008. Its Interpretation Centre opened in 2013, being a structure focused on the promotion of natural heritage and support to visitors in that protected area.
Caldeira Velha is also sought by many visitors who wish to enjoy its iron-rich waters surrounded by exuberant nature, waterfalls and hot eater canals.
