European Waste Prevention Week focused on education and communication for waste reduction
The Regional Secretariat for Energy, Environment and Tourism, through the Regional Directorate for the Environment, will hold the 10th Azorean Waste Week from November 16 to 24. The initiative is held under the 11th European Waste Prevention Week with the aim of including actions organised by public and private entities on all islands of the archipelago.
This year's edition will focus on “Education and Communication for Waste Reduction.” Participants will be challenged to educate themselves and other people about waste and put this knowledge into practice by changing their daily consumption habits towards waste reduction.
Under the slogan “Change your habits. Reduce your waste,” the European Waste Prevention Week aims to call everyone, from children to adults, citizens and companies, authorities and non-governmental organisations, to take action by changing their habits and leading others to follow their example.
Any entity may promote awareness-raising actions and activities focused on education and communication for the reduction of waste production by applying as Waste Week Action Proponent until November 8 and submitting the form available at http://www.ewwr.eu/register.
The initiative is open to entities that fall into the following categories: Administration/Public Authority; Association/NGO; Company/Industry; School Establishment; Individuals; Others (hospital, nursing home, cultural institution, etc.).
The European Waste Reduction Week is an international initiative aimed at implementing, for a week, awareness-raising actions on the sustainable management of resources and waste in order to change the behaviour of European citizens with regard to their consumption habits.
The Regional Directorate for the Environment is the coordinating entity of the European Waste Prevention Week in the Azores. Last year, 170 actions were promoted throughout the archipelago, involving 94 entities.
