Regional Government awards prizes to the 71 winning villages in the competition “Eco Village: clean village”
The initiative “Eco Village: clean village” took place from January 14 to September 30, 2010 and it was implemented with the purpose of promoting a good environmental behaviour within the space of the participating villages by recognising and distinguishing the efforts undertaken by Parish Councils in the cleansing, removal, transportation and delivery of waste to its appropriate final destination, which should recycled or recovered.
The first edition of “Eco Villages: clean village” counted on the participation of 108 villages various municipalities of all Azorean islands, having been distinguished the municipalities of all islands, except Graciosa. The list containing the winning villages may be consulted at www.residuos-azores.org.
With this initiative, the Government of the Azores aims to recognise and distinguish the efforts undertaken by the awarded villages, in collaboration with the local populations, in the cleansing, removal, transportation and delivery of waste to its appropriate final destination in the public space of their village.
The prize delivery ceremony will be held simultaneously on each island on December 1 at 3 PM in the Villages of Santa Bárbara on the island of Santa Maria, Ribeira das Taínhas on São Miguel, Cinco Ribeiras on Terceira, Praia do Norte on Faial, Norte Pequeno on São Jorge, São Caetano on Pico, Mosteiro on Flores and Vila do Corvo on the island of Corvo.
