The Regional Secretariat for Energy, Environment and Tourism, through the Regional Directorate for the Environment, promotes a final conference on PRAC - Regional Plan for Climate Change next Thursday, November 16.
This conference will take place at the Regional Civil Engineering Laboratory in Ponta Delgada. It aims to mark the completion of the drafting work on PRAC as well as on its environmental report.
The meeting will address a number of issues, including climate scenarios for the Azores, vulnerability, impacts and adaptation measures, emission scenarios and mitigation opportunities, regional inventory of greenhouse gas emissions and strategic environmental assessment.
The preparation of PRAC is in its final phase and was supported by a consortium led by the company CAOS. The works involved the participation of experts from the Universities of Lisbon and the Azores, Higher Technical Institute and CEDRU - Centre for Studies and Urban and Regional Development. The environmental assessment was carried out by Simbiente Açores.
PRAC is a sectoral land management plan that is highly relevant for various sectors of the regional society and economy.
Under its implementation, it will be possible to quantify and minimise greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, reduce vulnerability and exposure to climate risks, increase resistance to extreme weather events and improve emergency response capacity. The plan will enhance the Region's territorial cohesion and reinforce the safety and protection of populations.
