The Regional Secretariat for Energy, Environment and Tourism, through the Regional Directorate for the Environment, promotes the 10th Azores Waste Week between November 16 and 24. Held under the 11th European Week for Waste Reduction, this initiative includes several actions voluntarily organised by public and private entities on all islands.
In this context, there are already scheduled 195 awareness-raising actions on all islands, organised by 91 entities, besides the promotion of various partnerships, including the public administration, municipalities, private companies, waste management and operators, educational establishments, environmental associations and NGOs and health units.
The planned initiatives will take place on the islands of São Miguel (41), Pico (41), Faial (36), Terceira (20), Santa Maria (18), Flores (13), Graciosa (10), Corvo (8) and São Jorge (8). They represent an increase over the 2018 edition, when 169 actions were carried out in the Azores.
This week, 16,570 actions will be developed in Portugal, among them 544 will be held in Portugal.
The actions will be developed in accordance with the theme “Education and communication for the reduction of waste production.” It aims to implement, for a week, awareness-raising actions on the sustainable management of resources and waste with the purpose of changing the behaviour of European citizens regarding their consumption patterns and habits.
