Government of the Azores works on technologies that promote the integration of renewable sources, says Regional Director for Energy
The Regional Director for Energy stated on the island of São Miguel that the Regional Government is working on technologies that promote the integration of renewable energy sources; they represented 37% of energy production in the archipelago in the first half of this year.
"The goal is to increase the penetration of renewable energy source in the energy production diagram, reduce dependence on fossil fuels as well as to safeguard the safety and quality of supply to the population," said Andreia Carreiro. She spoke Friday in Porto Formoso during a debate on "Green Energy and Mobility" held under the Azores Burning Summer.
The Regional Director pointed out the insularity and remoteness pose "limitations and challenges, because we are nine isolated energy systems."
For Andreia Carreiro, it is important to look for various "decarbonisation solutions, namely those regarding storage and the provision of support services to the power grid."
As for electric mobility, she assured that the "the Government has awarded priority status to this area." taking into consideration that the archipelago of the Azores offers the "ideal conditions" for its implementation.
"There are packs on which we are working strategically" towards the implementation of energy efficiency through electric mobility, noted Andreia Carreiro. She added that these three packs concern the implementation of a public vehicle charging station network, financial and non-financial incentives, and lines of action for electric mobility and the dissemination of its benefits.
