The Regional Director for Tourism stressed that the fourth edition of Marés Festival enhances the "tourist entertainment offer on the island of São Miguel outside the main urban centres," such as the village of Mosteiros in this specific case, while attracting "new tourism flows and audiences that boost the local economy."
“Initiatives like this stem from the entrepreneurial skills of its creators, but they are, above all, initiatives that instil a cultural dynamics that is always welcome on our islands," said Marlene Damião, who spoke Thursday at the festival presentation.
According to her, this is an event that “will certainly offer great cultural moments to the rhythm of various musical genres not only to local population but also to the tourists visiting this island."
"In the context of regional tourism, cultural and tourist entertainment should be a comprehensive project involving the participation of everyone, from tourism and cultural agents, municipalities to the population," stated the government official.
“We all have to work on tourist entertainment in a way that will motivate, promote and facilitate a wider and more effective participation of tourists in the activities they choose to do here: resting, knowing the Region and touring. Our aim is to provide them with the best tourist experiences so that they will have the desire to return here," stated the government official.
Marlene Damião stressed that the Regional Government “has long been joined and supported initiatives this type of initiatives." In this regard, she highlighted the "importance of tourist entertainment and the contribution of these events to the projection of the destination abroad, the revitalisation of the local economy as well as to the development and sustainability of tourism in the Azores."
