The Regional Tourism Inspectorate (IRTur) is a service of the Regional Secretariat for Energy, Environment and Tourism under the direct administration of the Regional Secretary. It is responsible for promoting and supervising compliance with legal provisions in matters concerning tourism-related activities and occupations that are not specifically assigned to other entities, namely the operation of tourist accommodation, travel and tourism agencies, and tourism recreation activities.
The actions undertaken by IRTur are not only intended to verify compliance with all legal provisions on tourism matters, but also to raise awareness for the improvement of quality in the tourism sector and to the projection of the good image of regional tourism.
The development of tourism in the Azores in recent years, especially with the increase in tourism demand and supply, has led to several changes in the regional tourism market and IRTur was not left out of this change. The growth of tourism has created a context full of new opportunities, enabling new forms of action, namely through the control of online platforms, thus reinforcing its presence among several tour operators and demanding an increasingly proactive work from this entity.
Its action is pursued with the primary goal of ensuring the quality of a unique destination that should be further improvement and ever more sustainable.
We are counting on you.
