The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism highlighted today the opening of a fast charging station for electric vehicles in Angra do Heroísmo for being the first of a series of 16 stations under implementation by the Regional Government to enter into operation.
“Electric mobility is a strategic priority for this Government,” stated Marta Guerreiro, who spoke at the opening of this charging station on the first day of the Regional Government's visit to Terceira Island. Among several measures, she stressed that “the installation of a network of 26 charging stations for electric vehicles is under way, with 16 being fast charging stations."
According to the government official, at least eight of the 16 fast charging stations will be implemented until the end of the year, besides the remaining 10 stations that will be installed through partnerships with Municipalities. Therefore, all Azorean municipalities will have, at least, one charging station by the first half of 2020.
"We are sure that this network of charging stations will be another boost in achieving electric mobility," stressed the government official.
The Regional Secretary also stated that "next year's budget will allocate incentives amounting to half a million Euros for the purchase of electric vehicles, including cars, motorcycles and bicycles."
The decree regulating these financial incentives is under public consultation until November 3 with the aim of collecting as many contributions as possible towards the implementation of an effective system that will streamline the allocation of support to Azorean citizens.
"We are talking about a strategic energy and environmental policy option, taking into consideration the goals we have set for sustainable development, decarbonisation of the economy, climate change mitigation and energy efficiency improvements," said Marta Guerreiro.
