Azorean Government recognises when investments are fruitful and guarantees continuity of Red Bull Cliff Diving in 2018, says Marta Guerreiro
The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism stated in Vila Franca do Campo that the Government of the Azores knows how to recognise when investments are fruitful," adding that the success of Red Bull Cliff Diving ensures its return in 2018.
"The organisation of this event in the Azores is already regarded as a classic in the calendar of sports events worldwide, which fits perfectly into the action of the Strategic Plan and Marketing of the Azores Tourism with regard to the investment and organisation of internationally renowned events in the nautical segment. It projects the Azores in a much wider promotional context," said Marta Guerreiro at the final press conference of the Red Bull Cliff Diving stage held in the Azores.
"The organisation Red Bull Cliff Diving in the Azores is also an example of how the Regional Government is committed to develop a policy that privileges initiatives with an effective promotional return and increases tourism flows," emphasised the Regional Secretary.
Marta Guerreiro praised the commitment of all entities involved for the success of the event, namely Red Bull, Extreme, Vila Franca do Campo Nautical Club and Vila Franca do Campo Town Hall. The government official stressed that this "is the mirror of an active nature event of major importance, not only in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo and São Miguel Island, in particular, but also in a much wider context that comprises the nine islands of the Azores.
This year's event involved the participation of 22 athletes from nine countries who, "once again, showed the exuberance and cliff diving skills on our shores in a meeting with our fantastic waters," said Marta Guerreiro.
"It is also in these details that the identity and authenticity of our heritage is revealed as a preponderant factor for the choice of the Azores, as a different place, for the organisation of initiatives that demonstrate their features, whether they are environmental, cultural or social," stressed the Secretary for Tourism.
