The Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat for Energy, Environment and Tourism, in conjunction with the Confederation of Portuguese Tourism will mark the World Tourism Day on September 27 on the island of São Miguel.
“Sustainable tourism: a legacy for the future” is the theme of the conference that will celebrate this event to be held at Nonagon - São Miguel Science and Technology Park in the city of Lagoa.
For the Regional Secretary, “this is a moment of great importance for the sector” as it will be “privileged space that will bring together all those who work directly in tourism."
“We call on our entrepreneurs to become part of this extremely important event by signing up and taking active part," urged the government official.
Marta Guerreiro noted that “the chosen theme and the close association of the archipelago with it demonstrate that we are on an increasingly consolidated path towards sustainable development. This makes us particularly proud as a Regional Government, also taking into account the ongoing certification process of the Azores as a Sustainable Destination."
The meeting is primarily intended to promote debate and knowledge sharing among entrepreneurs, managers, researchers, scholars and other tourism professionals. In this context, the sustainability of tourist destinations will be the main theme under discussion.
The event will include a roundtable on sustainable tourism featuring regional personalities linked to the sector, the presentation of the study on the “Digital Economy Impact on Tourism Economic Activities” by Miguel Castro Neto, Deputy Director of NOVA IMS - Information Management School, and a lecture by António Sampaio da Nóvoa, as keynote speaker.
