Azores will be part of GeoAtlantic project to boost local ecosystems for energy transition and geothermal energy use
The Government of the Azores will be part of "GeoAtlantic - Stimulus of local ecosystems for the use of geothermal energy of communities." This Interreg project is financed by the Atlantic area transnational cooperation programme 2014-2020, under Axis 2, whose priority is to promote resource efficiency.
This 36-month project aims to develop methodologies and cooperation tools to create the necessary conditions to encourage energy transition in the Atlantic area, enhancing geothermal resources, through a partnership that includes several countries such as Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom United Kingdom, France and Ireland.
The Region will participate through EDA Renováveis in activities related to the implementation of the project, with special emphasis on initiatives that boost local ecosystems for energy transition and develop skills through training and consultancy at different levels towards the promotion of energy transition in local communities.
Moreover, the Region will also develop other activities such as the transfer of technology and new business in the field of geothermal energy, while promoting demonstration initiatives directed to the transition to geothermal energy.
The consortium of the Autonomous Region of the Azores for the organisation of activities has as partners EDA Renováveis and three associates: the Regional Secretariat for Energy, Environment and Tourism, through the Regional Directorate for Energy, Povoação Town Hall and Ribeira Grande City Hall.
