Holy Christ of Miracles Festivities are important event to promote religious tourism in the Azores, says Marta Guerreiro
The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism stressed that the Holy Christ of Miracles Festivities, taking place in Ponta Delgada, are an important event to promote the religious tourism segment in the Azores.
"This is the largest religious event in the Region, attracting a considerable number of tourists in this segment," but also many migrants who "continue to live our traditions and disseminate them in their places of residence," said Marta Guerreiro.
"Given the relevance and projection of these festivities in the tourism sector, the Azorean Government, through various public departments and companies, maintains the financial and logistical support for their celebration," assured the Regional Secretary.
The Secretary for Tourism also stressed "the identity of these festivities as an important tourist event based on people, culture and traditions of the region, being one of the main differentiating aspects of the archipelago."
According to Marta Guerreiro, "the promotion of the Azores Destination involves events that complement and diversify the Region's tourism offer, while contributing to its dissemination and external promotion, which is the case of the Holy Christ of Miracles Festivities.
"It is true that we are sought after as a "Nature Certified" destination and recognised as active nature tourism, but we cannot neglect religion as a complementary aspect within the regional tourism offer," said the Regional Secretary.
