Legislation regulating granting of financial incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles and charging stations published in the Official Journal
The legislation regulating the granting of financial incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles and charging stations, acquired in the Region by individuals or legal persons with tax residence in the Azores, was published today in the Official Journal.
The incentive corresponds to the granting of financial support for the acquisition of a new electric vehicle and the respective charging station in the amount and conditions to be established by resolution of the Council of the Government.
The incentives granted for the purchase of electric vehicles may be increased in the following cases: electricity users with time of use tariff; users with tax residence on the islands belonging to the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves (Corvo, Flores, Graciosa and São Jorge); users presenting technological solutions for the smart management of electrical networks, promoting the integration of renewable and endogenous energy sources and ensuring the safety of supply, and users presenting a certification of destruction to prove that their internal combustion vehicle has been destroyed.
Beneficiaries are allowed to accumulate the incentives granted by this legislation with others of similar nature provided for in the national legislation.
For the Regional Government, the implementation of electric mobility is essential to invest in the new paradigm of sustainable mobility, through the progressive replacement of internal combustion vehicles with electric vehicles.
In this context, the granting of financial incentives for the acquisition of electric vehicles by individuals or legal persons is justified by the timely achievement of the goals to combat climate change in the Azores in terms of mitigation and sustainable development.
"The investment in electric mobility is a strategic option from the standpoint energy and environmental policies pursued by the Regional Government. In fact, it plays an important role in the achievement of sustainable development goals as well as in the decarbonisation of the economy, mitigating the effects of climate change and improving energy efficiency," said the Regional Secretary.
In the transport sector, namely in land transport, the progressive and increasing use of electric vehicles enhances the use of endogenous and renewable energy resources in the energy generation system, thus contributing to the reduction of noise and greenhouse gas emissions, and the improvement of air quality.
