Marta Guerreiro expresses satisfaction for Ryanair's new London-Terceira route in 2020
The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism expressed “great satisfaction” today for the announcement of Ryanair's new international route from London to Terceira Island in 2020.
“This is the first route ever from the British market to this island, and so, as we have been showing, we believe 2020 will be a good year for tourism on Terceira Island,” stated Marta Guerreiro.
Ryanair announced today the summer plan for 2020, which includes a new weekly route from London to Terceira Island between April and October, and a weekly route from London to São Miguel between June and September, replacing the previous Manchester-São Miguel route.
“This is the result of a strategy of continuous communication and analysis of opportunities with the main tour operators and airlines with an interest in the Azores destination,” said the Secretary for Tourism.
According to Marta Guerreiro, "the British market is one of the nine tourism markets defined in the Azores Tourism Strategic and Marketing Plan with a large growth potential."
"The British are recognised as one of the people with the greatest desire to travel outside their country, which, together with the geographical proximity of the Azores, enables us to predict the good growth potential of this market for the Region," said the government official.
For the Regional Secretary, these routes are "an exceptional opportunity to further grow this target market."
"The definition of our destination and of what we have to offer is directly related to the interests of British travellers insofar as the Azores are a lush green archipelago of nine islands in the middle of the North Atlantic with a temperate and mild climate throughout the year," added the government oficial.
