The public session for the presentation and discussion of the proposal amending the National Spatial Planning Policy Programme (PNPOT) will take place on June 8 at the Regional Civil Engineering Laboratory in Ponta Delgada, following the sessions already held in Lisbon, Coimbra, Porto, Évora, Faro and Funchal.
The opening session counts on the participation of the Minister of the Environment, João Pedro Matos Fernandes, and the Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism, Marta Guerreiro. It will be followed by a panel on public policies for spatial planning in the Azores and another dedicated to PNPOT's lines of action. After these sessions, the document will be put to public consultation.
This initiative aims to generate a broad dialogue and foster the reflection on the constraints, opportunities and challenges that the entire Portuguese territory faces. It will also focus on the planning and development goals that the country wishes to pursue based on an informed territorial vision.
The proposed amendment to PNPOT focuses on a new 10-year Action Programme and on a new management and monitoring model. Hence, it will become the guideline for sectoral policies as well as for national, regional and local plans and programmes in coordination with the most important structural investment programmes.
