Regional Government allocates 1.2 million Euros for initiatives aimed at promoting the Azores as tourist destination
The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism stated in Lisbon that the Regional Government will allocate 1.2 million Euros for financial support under the public funding scheme for initiatives aimed at promoting the Azores as tourist destination.
Marta Guerreiro spoke on the sidelines of the Strategic Council for Tourism Promotion, stressing the importance of the tourism sector in the Region, "which has proven itself as a driving force in the Azorean economy." Hence, it is important "to continue investing in initiatives that will promote the archipelago."
"This financial support shows, once again, the Regional Government's acknowledgement that the development of this sector should continue to be pursued through joint work with private entities that have harnessed the potential of this activity, besides their contribution to the growing national and international visibility of the destination," stressed the government official.
According to the government official, "the focus on promotion is also fundamental through the various actions that the private sector develops on all the islands throughout the year," and for that reason, this funding scheme is "quite relevant" for its implementation.
The Secretary for Tourism mentioned that the holding of events in the low and medium seasons has been a priority for the Azorean Government due to the flows they generate, thus mitigating the effects of seasonality and contributing to the sustainability of the sector.
