Regional Government authorises opening of tender for operation of Ferraria Thermal Spa
The resolution of the Council of the Government authorising the opening of a restricted tender procedure by previous qualification for the operation of Ferraria Thermal Spa building on S. Miguel Island for a 10-year period, renewable once for another five years, was published today in the Official Journal.
This procedure intends to define new rules for this operation. For example, the concessionaire will be required to carry out the certification procedures of water as natural mineral water.
In turn, they also take into account that this type of operation should be preferably carried out by a private entity, provided that the proper maintenance of the property that make up the complex and its use by tourists and residents be safeguarded.
The measure considers the importance of using geological hydromineral resources with therapeutic potential, abundant in the Azores, and keeping up with the trends in the development of world tourism, which evidence the growing demand for products related to leisure and therapeutic thermal spas.
Given the complexity of the procedure in question, the Government has also authorised a direct adjustment procedure for the signing of a concession agreement for the operation of Ferraria Thermal Spa building between July 2 and December 31, 2019. This period of time is deemed necessary for the completion of the procedure, thus ensuring the continuity of its operation.
Approved by the Council of the Government on June 27, the resolution enters into force on the date of its approval.
