The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism announced today that the Government will maintain the partnership with the promoters of the Red Bull Cliff Diving Azores, ensuring the continuity of the event in 2020, already scheduled for the first weekend of September.
Marta Guerreiro spoke at the final conference of the event, after the prize-delivery ceremony that took place on Vila Franca do Campo Islet. On the occasion, she pointed out that the "Regional Government had to be a partner of this event. It was held for the eighth consecutive year in the Region, being one of the most appreciated stages by the public.
"This is due to the specificities of this event, during which divers jump directly from the rocks to the sea in a competition full of colours and sensations, a true sea of emotions. The latter is precisely one of the slogans of our tourist destination," stated the government official.
According to Marta Guerreiro, the specificity of the environmental heritage "also contributes to the success of this event, enhancing the visibility of the destination in niche markets that are important for us. This has been achieved through the very high level of national and international promotion of these unique characteristics, where land and sea mingle and complement each other. "
"The Regional Government will remain committed to pursuing policies with effective return in terms of promotion and tourism flows. They will always highlight the landscape beauties of the Region and sports practice is promoted as a true experience of contact with Nature, which has been crucial for the organisation of this type of events in the Azores," stressed the government official.
The Secretary for Tourism pointed out the Government's role in preserving and safeguarding natural resources. In the specific case of Red Bull Cliff Diving, she ensured that the Government has always safeguarded the concerns "to maintain the integrity of the space during the event, contributing to the preservation of this unique environmental heritage."
Marta Guerreiro offered a word to the Town Council and the Nautical Club, praising their "commitment and involvement in this event that has further promoted Vila Franca," as well as to Extreme and Red Bull for "promoting the Azores through this vast sea surrounding us that is also part of our identity."
