The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism stated that the Regional Government has implemented a strategy that “contributes to ensuring to ensuring that everyone has access to electric mobility."
Marta Guerreiro spoke in Ponta Delgada during the signing of the contract with the company EVCE Power for supply, installation and maintenance of 16 fast charging stations under the Azores electric mobility network. This procedure concludes the second phase of the international public tender.
“Today, we are taking another step towards the massification of electric vehicles, making it a reality in our Region,” stated the government official.
According to the government official, the first 8 fast charging points will be installed in the following locations: Vila do Porto (Santa Maria Island), Ponta Delgada (São Miguel Island), Angra do Heroísmo (Terceira Island), Santa Cruz da Graciosa (Graciosa Island), Madalena do Pico (Pico Island), Horta (Faial Island), Velas (Sao Jorge Island) and Lajes das Flores (Flores Island).
The network of 26 public charging stations for electric vehicles will cover all the islands and municipalities of the Azores. Among them, 10 will be installed this year through protocols signed with Municipal Councils.
The government official stressed that the Government is responsible for ensuring that this network be able to provide "comfort" and "safety" to all electric vehicle users, who should be "an ever-increasing number."
On the occasion, the Regional Secretary recalled the recent approval of the Regional Legislative Decree defining the Strategy for the Implementation of Electric Mobility in the Azores at the Regional Assembly. This legal document provides not only the installation of charging stations, but also the granting of financial incentives for the acquisition of electric vehicles and the implementation of positive discrimination measures for their users, such as free parking and specific parking spaces for electric vehicles.
