Regional Government proposes amendment to legal document that partially suspends Azores Tourism Management Plan
The Regional Government has submitted to the Legislative Assembly a proposal for regional legislative decree introducing the first amendment to the Regional Legislative Decree no.13/2010/A, whose purpose is the partial suspension of POTRAA - Tourism Management Plan of the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
The amendment to this legal document takes into account the new economic and social reality of the tourism sector in the Azores, especially the accommodation capacity on the island of São Miguel.
Until the new POTRAA comes into force, the proposed amendment intend be a legislative option in line with the documents and strategies that have been recently prepared for the sector, namely the Strategic and Marketing Plan for Azores Tourism and the certification process of the Azores as Sustainable Tourist Destination.
More specifically, the amendment to the legal document focuses essentially on the article concerning the implementation of precautionary measures for São Miguel Island. If the increase of the tourism accommodation offer exceeds 75 beds, the authorisation for urban operations related to tourism projects shall be granted through a Resolution issued by the Council of the Government. It will take into account the coordination of the project with the Strategic and Marketing Plan for Azores Tourism, the economic and social impact on the territory where it will be development, as well as the architectural and urban design adequacy to the surrounding area and the landscape.
