"A Horizon of Proximity" exhibition closes with talk on António Cachola

The Regional Directorate for Culture, through the Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre, promotes Saturday, February 20, the closing session of the exhibition "A Horizon of Proximity: a topology from António Cachola Collection" with the launch of the catalogue and a talk on this collection.

The talk on António Cachola Collection aim to highlight not only the exhibition that has been open to the public at Arquipélago in Ribeira Grande, but also the recognition to the collector by Arco Foundation; the latter will distinguish this collection for its artistic value and support to the dissemination of contemporary art.

Under the curatorship of Sérgio Mah, the exhibition opened on October 16, 2015 and will be open to the public until February 28. This is the largest exhibition of António Cachola collection ever held in terms of the number of featured artists, displayed works and exhibition area.

“A Horizon of Proximity” features a significant number of artists who have excelled in the 1980s to the more recent generations, including artists born after the 1974 Revolution, thus presenting a wide a range of conceptual genres and attitudes, artistic devices and aesthetic movements. They somehow accompany the heterogeneous and transversal nature of current artistic scene in Portugal.

The exhibition, which has been open to the public on São Miguel over the last four months, was mentioned several times in the national and international media. It includes works on deposit at the Évora -Contemporary Art Museum and Chiado - National Museum of Contemporary Art, making up a total of a hundred works by 38 artists.

The event to be held Saturday at 6 PM will be attended by the collector, the exhibition's curator and three guest artists, including Augusto Alves da Silva, João Onofre and Pedro Calapez. In addition, there will be a party, organised in partnership with Arco 8 bar/gallery, featuring DJ Miguel Torga.

The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of the CulturAçores Portal at the following address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
