The Regional Directorate for Culture, together with Carlos Machado Museum, Cresaçor Cooperative and Arrisca, signed a Cooperation Protocol in Ponta Delgada today to formalise the creation of the Agency for Cultural Tourism (ATUC).
On the occasion, the Regional Director for Culture congratulated these institutions as they were mobilise to synergies in order to achieve a successful intervention in the society, culture and the economy of Ponta Delgada and São Miguel as well.
ATUC is intended to establish itself as a permanent entity with intervention in the areas of preservation, protection, dissemination and the enjoyment of the Azores heritage and culture, with specific intervention on the island of São Miguel.
It also aims to create a permanent platform for cooperation between public and private entities in order to optimise local resources in the structured implementation of responses directed at the protection of regional heritage diversity and cultural identity.
Furthermore, the Agency for Cultural Tourism was created with the purpose of being a support structure for the promotion of cultural tourism in an active, accessible and inclusive way.
In this context, Jorge Paulus Bruno, launched a challenge to museums, libraries and cultural institutions, urging them "to gradually open to society and not to close in themselves."
With the signing of this protocol, the Government will be responsible for the renewal of a building annexed to the Carlos Machado Museum, where the ATUC will be installed. These interventions will also contribute the renewal of another building in the city of Ponta Delgada.
