Angra do Heroísmo Museum presents film "Hugo"

The Regional Directorate for Culture, through the Angra do Heroísmo Museum, presents Saturday the film "Hugo" by Martin Scorsese at 3 PM, closing the film cycle "Childhood in Film" that started in October. This initiative had the partnership of Terceira Film Club.

Based on the Brian Selznick's bestseller, the film tells the story of an orphan who lives in secrecy on the walls of a train station in Paris and, with the help of a friend, is looking for the answer to a mysterious link between his late father, the grumpy owner of a toy store and a heart-shaped lock, whose key will activate a mechanical man.

Targeted to children, this film is a tribute to George Méliès, Auguste and Louis Lumière and all those who were pioneers in the history of cinema.

The presentation of the film will be carried out by Ana Almeida, who will address aspects concerning film direction and will comment on the articulation of the different languages used.

The film cycle now ending is included in the plan to promote the exhibition titled "Small World | Childhood between 1890 and 1950." The initiative is coordinated by Carlos Bessa, member of Angra do Heroísmo Film Club.

In this context, the selected films - "Aniki Bobó," "Oliver Twist" and "Hugo" - are particularly representative of the three main themes that exhibition.

"Small World | Childhood between 1890 and 1950" is on display at the Chapter House until January 31. It is part of an exhibition that features garments, furniture and toys belonging to the Angra do Heroísmo Museum's collections or temporarily transferred from private collections owned by individuals and institutions. This project is primarily intended to portray the profound changes in the concept of childhood in the western societies during the last decades of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century, which are embodied in the Declaration of the Rights of the Child (1959).

The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of the CulturAçores Portal at the following address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
