Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre and Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive nominated for Secil Architecture Awards
Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre on S. Miguel Island and Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive on Terceira Island are among the 12 finalist works of the 12th Secil Architecture Awards, an initiative promoted by the Portuguese Association of Architects.
The Secil Architecture Award is the most important national competition in the area. This year's edition features the works completed between the years 2012 and 2016 that have been designed by architects registered as members of the Portuguese Association of Architects.
Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre, located in Ribeira Grande, was designed by architect João Mendes Ribeiro and the "Menos é Mais" office led by architects Cristina Guedes and Francisco Vieira de Campos. In turn, the Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive in Angra do Heroísmo was designed by architect Inês Lobo.
Both buildings will be visited by the jury of the award at the end of this month. The panel is composed of the following members: architects José Neves, president of the Jury and winner of PSA 2012; João Carlos dos Santos, deputy director general of the Directorate-General of Cultural Heritage; Ricardo Carvalho, member of the Portuguese Section of the International Association of Art Critics; João Belo Rodeia, from the company Secil and Manuel Correia Fernandes, member of the Portuguese Association of Architects.
