Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre holds exhibitions, artistic residencies and a concert in October
The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre in Ribeira Grande, promotes several exhibitions, artistic residencies, a concerts and several activities by the Educational Services in October.
During this month, three exhibition projects and a piece of sculptural architecture, installed in the central courtyard, may be visited at the Contemporary Arts Centre.
The 1st Exhibition Cycle of the "Sonic Geometry" project features works by Manon Harrois, Sara Bichão, Laetitia Morais and Francisco Janes as well as a selection of images from the Audiovisual Archive of RTP. It may be visited until October 21.
The room of the Educational Services showcases the "Educational Service 2015 - 2018" exhibition, which presents to the public a selection of works created and produced within the scope of various projects developed by this service.
In turn, the photography exhibition entitled "The Refugees" by Rui Caria, in partnership with the Association of Amateur Photographers of the Azores, will be open until October 28.
Under "Sonic Geometry," a project developed in partnership with RTP and curated by Nuno Faria and Nicolau Tudela, Arquipélago hosts the Artistic Residency of Mike Cooter and Tomás Cunha Ferreira between October 14 and 26.
These two artists, together with Miguel Leal and Pedro Tudela, are part of the 2nd Exhibition Cycle of "Sonic Geometry," which will open on October 27 at 6:30 PM.
During the month of October, the "Landmark" project may be visited in the central courtyard of Arquipélago. It stemmed from the artistic residency of architect Joaquim Oliveira, an initiative promoted by the Regional Directorate for Culture under the theme "Heritage as source of inspiration" in the context of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
This month's programme at the Archipelago also includes two other artistic residencies. The first one, "Terra Batida" takes place until Friday, October 12, and culminates in a concert/presentation of the album "Valver" on the same day at the Blackbox at 9:30 PM.
At the end of the month, Arquipélago hosts the Artistic Residency of Idaira del Castillo. This Canarian artist was selected under the protocol signed by the Regional Directorate for Culture through Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre and La Regenta Art Centre in the Canaries for the exchange of artists from the two Macaronesian archipelagos.
Under the "Last Sunday of each month" initiative, the Educational Services promote a visit/workshop "Drawing - From the illusion to the imaginary" on October 28, which aims to explore different forms of drawing. The activity is directed to young people over 12 years.
The workshops "Is the sun round?" for children aged between 2 and 6, "Let's shoot," for children from 6 to 12 years, and "Drawing - From the illusion to the imaginary," for young people over 12 years, will be available until October 21.
