Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre opens 1st "Sonic Geometry" Exhibition Cycle
The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Arquipélago – Contemporary Arts Centre, opens the 1st "Sonic Geometry" Exhibition Cycle on August 11 at 6:30 PM. This project is developed in partnership with RTP - Radio and Television of Portugal and curated by Nuno Faria and Nicolau Tudela.
This cycle presents works created under the Artistic Residencies by the duos Manon Harrois/ Sara Bichão and Laetitia Morais/ Francisco Janes as well as a selection of images from the Audiovisual Archive of RTP.
According to curator Nuno Faria, the project "encompasses different levels of experience, life experiences in the present and the remembrance of the past, landscape contemplation and immersion in the territory, and individual and community experience."
The Artistic Residencies have been taking place since May. Each duo has stayed in the Azores for about 15 days in order to develop their projects, which involve research, creation and production of new works from the territory - Archipelago of the Azores - using the vast Audiovisual Archive of RTP.
Manon Harrois and Sara Bichão were the first duo in residency at Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre in May, followed by Laetitia Morais and Francisco Janes in July. The duos Ricardo Jacinto/Pedro Tropa and e Miguel Leal/Pedro Tudela were also in residency in June and July, respectively.
The result of these Artistic Residencies will be presented in the following two exhibition cycles: the 2nd Exhibition Cycle in October and the 3rd Exhibition Cycle in January.
Arquipélago marks its third anniversary with "Sonic Geometry," a project that also celebrates this year as the European Year of Cultural Heritage. In this context, it privileges "the key components of this Arts Centre - Exhibition Space, Creation and Production Platform, Experimental and Research Platform," according to Fátima Marques Pereira, director of Arquipélago.
