The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre, opens "BLISS" exhibition by Sofia Caetano next Saturday, March 11, at 8 PM. It stems from the work developed under the Creative Artistic Grant awarded by the Government of the Azores in 2016.
This exhibition is presented in the context of the initiative designated as "Inpossible with n...into the possibility - International Exhibition of Academic Works." The latter will showcase the works of graduate students from various art schools until April 16.
The "BLISS" exhibition was recognised by the jury of Sonae Media Art in 2017, being the highest art award in Portugal. Sofia Caetano was one of the five finalists selected for the prize among 147 candidates.
Sofia Caetano was born in Ponta Delgada. She graduated in Fine Arts - Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon and concluded her Master of Fine Arts degree in Media Art at Emerson College, USA, for which she received the "Award for Excellence." She currently teaches at this institution.
Distinguished with "Women in Filmmaking Award" by Emerson LA Film Festival, the artist is currently writing her first feature film, "The Happiest Man." She founded the producer "The Spectacular House" together with Elliot Sheedy.
The artistic creation grants are awarded under the Regional Legislative Decree no. 29/2006/A, amended and republished by Regional Legislative Decree no. 9/2014 / A. It establishes the legal framework on the support to cultural activities allocated by the Government of the Azores on an annual basis in predefined areas that include the categories of visual arts, audiovisual and multimedia, creative writing, dance, drama, photography and music.
