The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre, and in partnership with the AIPA - Azores Immigrant Association hosts the exhibition of the documentary entitled "Fire in the Sea" by Gianfranco Rosi Saturday, December 17, at 5:30 PM.
The event aims to mark the International Migrations/Migrants Day, which is celebrated on December 18. The event will enhance the debate and awareness of the Azorean society for the struggles of refugees.
After the exhibition of this document, there will be a debate on the refugee crisis, featuring the participation of the Regional Assistant Secretary of the Presidency for Foreign Affairs, Rui Bettencourt, and Social Sciences expert, Gilberta Rocha.
The documentary "Fire in the Sea" has become a witness in the form of film on the reality of Lampedusa, an island at the heart of the crisis of refugees who try to reach Europe.
In addition to witnessing the daily rescue of thousands of refugees arriving in makeshift boats, this work follows the routines of the inhabitants of that Italian island.
This documentary was selected to join the Official Competition of the Berlin Film Festival. It has already won the Golden Bear at this event and has also been awarded the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury, Amnesty International Prize and the Berliner Morgenpost Newspaper Prize.
The exhibition the film, suitable for audiences over 12 years, will take place at the Blackbox of Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre. The session has an admission fee of two Euros.
