Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre promotes exhibitions, music and theatre performances in December
The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre promotes in December exhibitions, a theatre play, an artistic residency, open days, a concert and the special Christmas activity organised by the Educational Services.
During this month, two exhibitions may be visited at the Contemporary Arts Centre in Ribeira Grande, namely the 2nd "Sonic Geometry" Exhibition Cycle. It features the artistic projects by the duos Miguel Leal/Pedro Tudela and Mike Cooter/Tomás Cunha Ferreira, developed in Artistic Residency, and a new selection of videos from the Audiovisual Archive of RTP depicting the Azorean reality.
The individual exhibition by Idaira del Castillo held the title "Azores.São Miguel" is open to the public until February 3; it is the culmination of the Artistic Residency undertaken by this artist at Arquipélago.
As for Artistic Residencies, the centre continues with the "Landmark" project by architect Joaquim Morais Oliveira, being the result of the Artistic Residency promoted by the Regional Directorate for Culture under the title "Heritage as source of inspiration" in the context of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
Between December 9 and 22, the Arquipélago welcomes Jonathan Uliel Saldanha, the last artist in residency under the "Sonic Geometry" project.
This artist, who works with Francisco Queimadela and Mariana Caló, is part of the 3rd "Sonic Geometry" Exhibition Cycle together with Ricardo Jacinto and Pedro Tropa; the new cycle opens on January 26.
In December, the Blackbox of the Arquipélago hosts three events. The first is the play "Electra" to be performed by Companhia do Chapitô on December 8 at 9:30 PM in the context of POP - Performing Arts and Techniques Meeting
On December 14, Arquipélago hosts the Open Day at 7 PM, featuring artist Pedro Vaz as part of his Creative Residence in Pico do Refúgio. On December 28, Elliot Sheedy presents the album "Cowboy Microwave Music" on piano and voice, accompanied by Luís Senra on saxophone and FLiP on the live drum machine; the event is scheduled for 9:30 PM.
Between December 18 and 21, the Educational Service promotes the activity designated as "Christmas gifts" for children aged between 6 and 10.
Registrations for these activities are already open.
The workshop-visits "Recreating Parts" for children from 2 to 6 years, "Working Influences" for children and youngsters aged between 6 and 12, and "Sound Environments" for children over 12 years of age are still available by appointment.

In turn, the itinerant exhibition project of Arquipélago's collection titled as "Pleasure of the Spirit and the Eye" may be visited at Santa Maria Museum at Vila do Porto Centre until December 18.
