The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre, is promoting the "Art for All" Artistic Residency by dancer and choreographer Catarina Medeiros, featuring the participation of dancer Tiago Correia.
Since March 1, both Azorean artists have been working with the community at the Occupational Activity Centre of "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" of Ribeira Grande to work. The initiative aims to introduce dance and movement to people with motor difficulties.
Catarina Medeiros noted that "dance for people with disabilities has gaining ground in Portugal over the last few years and its benefits are becoming more visible for themselves and for the community." According to her, "the mission of this residency is to bring this awareness to the Azores."
This artistic residency will culminate in a dance show to be held at Blackbox of the Contemporary Arts Centre in Ribeira Grande on May 18, the International Museum Day.
For its part, the Educational Service of Arquipélago will develop various activities throughout the year. Those are interested should register at the email address [email protected] or by filling in the form available at the address www.arquipelagocentrodeartes.azores.gov.pt.
