Arquipélago – Contemporary Arts Centre in Ribeira Grande highlights the exhibitions of the artistic residencies “Unknown Land” and "Salutem: to your health” in its schedule for the month of August.
On Sunday, August 6, it will open the exhibition projects of Mauro Cerqueira and João Gigante under “Unknown Land” artistic residency.
Mauro Cerqueira spent a month on Terceira Island, presenting as result the “Ruin Life” project, while João Gigante, who spent a month on Flores Island, presents “The Archetype of Form.”
The exhibitions under “Unknown Land” and “Salutem: to your health” artistic residencies will be open to the public until September 3. They also feature the work of artist Patricia Dauder.
The Contemporary Arts Centre will also display other projects resulting from “Salutem: to your health” artistic residency by Hugo Paquete, “Zoe Actant,” and Ana Nobre, “Map of Life.”
On August 5, the cycle of guided tours “From the same hands” invites the audience to know the painting entitled “Eighth Book, 2007” by Urbano at Nova Gráfica at 10.15 AM; admission is free.
Throughout the month of August, the centre will open to the public the work of the same artist that belongs to Arquipélago’s collection: “Great Book of Flores” and “Ashes #30, 2008.”
“From the same hands” seeks to establish a connection with works produced by the hands of the artists who created them in four guided tours. They are intended to share perspectives and readings on the works on display at these institutions and their sister works belonging to the collection of the Contemporary Arts Centre.
Between August 4 and 18, Arquipélago hosts the “Antropocenas” Artistic Residency.

At this event, which will take place on August 12 between 3 PM and 4:30 PM, participants will face the challenge of giving new life to seemingly lifeless materials, using some of the materials used by this artist.
In turn, “Summer at Arquipélago” returns to the Contemporary Arts Centre between August 22 and 26 in the form of a Mini Residency for Mini Artists, aged between 6 and 12.
For five days, participants will have the opportunity to learn how to build the creative process and know the whole universe of artists in residence.
