The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Secretariat for Education and Culture, promotes three concerts Sunday, September 4, at 9:30 PM. These events are take place in weekend dedicated to early music under the Artistic Season 2016.
At Colégio Church in Ponta Delgada, Sandra Medeiros (soprano), Helena Raposo (lute, baroque guitar and theorbo) and Carmina Repas Gonçalves (viola da gamba) present a concert titled as "Affetti Amorosi," which is also the name of a love song book compiled by Giovanni Stefani in 1621.
This concert brings together some pieces for voice and plucked string instruments by Renaissance and Baroque composers; they are intended to express human emotions.
At São Mateus Church in Vila da Praia, Graciosa Island, there will be concert held under the theme "Singing Pipes," a journey into the splendours of 18t-century Baroque music that covers several European courts, namely Germany, England and Spain.
This concert, performed by Rúben Rodrigues (flute) and Fábio Mendes (organ), will showcase different features of Baroque music with works by Telemann, Bach, John Stanley and Juan de Sesé.
The concert by the Flute and Harpsichord Duo, composed of Maria Elena Biasini and Gustaaf van Manen, will take place at Nossa Senhora da Guia Church in Angra do Heroísmo.
This concert presents a comparison of baroque pieces for solo flute and solo harpsichord, highlighting the contrasts between Baroque styles of German, Italian and French origin.
