The Azores Culture electronic portal, which received more than 832,000 views in 2015, has been redesigned with a new image and features. It is managed by the Regional Directorate for Culture (DRC), which is under the administration of the Regional Secretariat for Education and Culture.
This portal, available at http://www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt/, provides the contents of the Azores Knowledge Centre in the area of digital archives and libraries, inventories and records. Moreover, it includes the Azores Cultural Agenda, Virtual Tours to Museums and the Culture Shop. The latter allows visitors to purchase the publications from the DRC and its external services, the Azores Cultural Itineraries - Personalities, the CulturAçores magazine and other publications containing institutional information.
The new Azores Culture portal also includes the content from Virtual Exhibitions, a project that already features an online exhibition, and Nature in Dialogue, an initiative promoted by the Carlos Machado Museum. This feature aims to record and display some exhibitions that make up the activity plans developed by regional museums, public libraries and archives as well as other events that deserve special attention from the public, given their relevance.
From January and throughout 2016, the portal will display other virtual exhibitions that will be announced in due course.
The Virtual Tours to Azorean Museums section now features the audio description of different places, through explanatory texts that complement the information already provided in the different steps of these visits.
In turn, the Azores Cultural Agenda provides access to information on cultural events taking place on all islands or those promoted by the Azores outside the archipelago. It counts on the partnership of 62 cultural agents who use this platform for the scheduling and dissemination of their events.
The Azores Cultural Agenda is a resource available free of charges to all cultural promoters upon signing an agreement with the Regional Directorate for Culture that ensures the access to the platform and the conditions of use.
The interest of the users of the Azores Culture Portal in various contents has been growing over the years, with special emphasis on Regional Parish and Passport Records. These pages have received a large number of daily visitors, namely emigrants and citizens of Portuguese ancestry.
The Azores Culture portal is targeted at all audiences, from researchers, historians, genealogists to visitors. It is gateway to the knowledge about the Azores that can be accessed from anywhere in the world.
