The Regional Directorate for Culture, through the Carlos Machado Museum, joins the Azores Maritime Zone Command to mark the Portuguese Navy Day, with a theme itinerary at the Sacred Art Centre in Ponta Delgada on May 16 at 6 PM.
Having as starting point 20 pieces of the collection, specially marked for the occasion, the Museum honours the Portuguese Navy by evoking the Sea.
It evokes the age of discoveries, overseas missions, maritime battles, oceanographic exploration and marine biodiversity.
Since 1998, the Navy Day has been marked in May, celebrating the arrival of Vasco da Gama to Calcutta in 1498, the first maritime connection between Europe and India.
The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of CulturAçores Portal at the following address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
