The Regional Directorate for Culture, through the Carlos Machado Museum and its Educational Service, promotes several activities included in the "Christmas Holidays at the Museum" project on December 19 and 21.
These activities, aimed at children between the ages of 6 and 12, will be held at the Santa Bárbara Centre in Ponta Delgada, from 9:30 AM to 12 PM and from 2 to 5 PM.
Initiatives are limited to 15 participants and are subject to previous registration, which should made by telephone 296 202 930.
On each day, there will be two workshops to be developed based on exhibitions or pieces belonging to the Museum's collections.
Thus, the workshop entitled "Imaginary Greenhouses" has as its starting point the "Interior / Exterior" exhibition, which explores two positions from the standpoint of the body, the house and the island.
At the core of the island, the piece by Gabriela Albergaria portrays a landscape of a greenhouse made up of endemic and invasive species.
Bearing in mind that the island of São Miguel has gardens that have long served as greenhouses for exotic and local plants that would travel around the world, this piece will inspire participants to crate their imaginary greenhouses here.
In turn, the activity designated as "Your Nativity Set in a box" aims to stimulate the creativity of the young participants based on a secular tradition, Nativity Scenes in "Lapinha" (sea-themed nativity scene).
Staring from the collection on display in "Memoirs of the Convent" itinerary at Santo André Museum Centre, participants will build their nativity in a small box.
