The Regional Secretariat for Education and Culture, through the Regional Directorate for Culture, and in partnership with Horta City Council promotes a concert by Lira Açoriana Regional Orchestra at Teatro Faialense next Saturday, August 31, at 9:30 PM.
In the year marking the 150th anniversary of Francisco de Lacerda's birth, the concert's programme will begin with Debussy's symphonic orchestra work "Dans le Clair de Lune," followed by pieces by Gustav Holst, Wouter Lenaerts, Frank Ticheli and Antero Ávila.
Organised under the Artistic Season 2019, this one-hour concert is free, but tickets are required to be collected previously due to space management reasons.
Tickets are available at the Municipal Market from Sunday to Wednesday between 8:30 AM and 7:30 PM and from Thursday to Saturday between 8:30 AM and 11 PM, and at the Teatro Faialense ticket office on the concert's day from 7:30 PM.
Launched in 2015 and based on training purposes, the Lira Açoriana project intends to be a valuable opportunity for selected young musicians, through continuous training, public concerts and the awarding of prizes.
This project is currently under the artistic direction of André Granjo, the guest conductor for the 2019/2020 biennium, who has 55 young musicians and 10 teachers under his guidance.
André Granjo holds a degree in Anthropology from the University of Coimbra and a Master's degree in Orchestral Conducting with a specialisation in Wind Orchestra from the Zuid-Nederlandse Hoogeschool fur Muziek in Maastricht, the Netherlands. He has performed as a guest conductor in Spain, France, the Netherlands, England, Colombia, Costa Rica, Macau and the USA.
Since February 2013, he has been the co-director of the Wind Orchestra of the Department of Communication and Art at the University of Aveiro and course instructor for the Master's degree in Orchestral Conducting - Wind Orchestra. Moreover, he is also the conductor of the Orchestras of the Music Conservatory of Jobra and the Music Conservatory of Bairrada, in addition to holding the position of Artistic Director of Troviscal Philharmonic Band, Coimbra Wind Orchestra and the Academic Orchestra of the University of Coimbra.
