The Regional Government, through the Regional Directorate for Culture, under the administration of the Regional Secretariat for Education and Culture, will hold a concert closing the workshop held by Lira Corvense Philharmonic Band. The event takes place at Nossa Senhora dos Milagres Church on Corvo next Sunday, June 10, at 4:30 PM under the Artistic Season 2018 and the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
The workshop, which runs between June 8 and 10, brings together about thirty musicians from the islands of Corvo and Flores, namely from União Operária e Cultural de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios Philharmonic Band, and five teachers. It falls within the strategy aimed at the dissemination of training initiatives among musicians from various Azorean philharmonic bands.
In addition to training, the initiative includes an open class directed to those who wish to play an instrument with the aim of encouraging new musicians to join this type of recreational and cultural associations.
The Lira Corvense Philharmonic Band has been active since 1991. Currently, board members are Paula Cristina Nunes Emílio Dias, Rui Pimentel and Ana Jorge. Hélder Azevedo is the conductor of the band.
The teachers participating in this initiative are as follows: Ema Gonçalves, principal clarinet of the Lisbon Film Orchestra and clarinet teacher at Praia da Vitória Basic Education School; Inácio Freire, saxophone teacher at Regional Conservatory of Ponta Delgada; Miguel Moutinho, trombone teacher at Praia de Vitória Basic Education School, member of the OSIT Orchestra, Artistic/Educational Director of Santa Bárbara Philharmonic Band and music teacher at União Praiense and Nossa Senhora do Pilar das Cinco Ribeiras Philharmonic Bands; Paulo Borges, trumpet teacher at the Regional Conservatory of Angra do Heroísmo; Rodrigo Lima, flute teacher at Praia da Vitória Basic Education School.
