"Conversas de Outono" (Autumn Talks) will be the title of a series of conferences organised by the Angra do Heroísmo Public Library and Regional Archives (BPARAH) from October 7 to November 11, 2011.
The cycle is dedicated to the concept of "Crisis" which will be discussed among the guest speakers from several areas, thus creating different perspectives and approaches on the subject in order to promote an extended reflection.
The panel of guest speakers features: Fernando Catroga, professor at the University of Coimbra, historian and expert in the History of Ideas; Óscar Mascarenhas, journalist, unionist and teacher; Fernando Alexandre Almeida, expert in Macroeconomics and Economic Policy, professor at the School of Economics and Management of the University of Minho; Anselmo Borges, philosopher and theologian, columnist for the Diário de Notícias, professor at the University of Coimbra and José Carlos Vasconcelos, renowned journalist, poet and lawyer, member of the editorial team of Visão magazine and director of Jornal de Letras.
The works will begin on October 7 with a lecture by Fernando Catroga. All other lectures will take place according to the following schedule: Óscar Mascarenhas, October 14, and Fernando Alexandre Almeida, October 21, Anselmo Borges, November 4 and José Carlos Vasconcelos, who will close the conference cycle on November 11.
