CulturAçores - Cultural Magazine issue 11 celebrates maestro Francisco de Lacerda
The Regional Secretariat for Education and Culture, through the Regional Directorate for Culture (DRC), has just published the most recent edition of CulturAçores - Cultural Magazine which marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Azorean conductor Francisco de Lacerda.
This editorial project praises the mastery of the São Jorge born musician who toured the main international stages alongside the greatest artists of his time, rediscovering this major personality of the archipelago's culture.
Following the initiatives promoted by the Regional Directorate for Culture, the publication also introduces the House of Time, a new area of the Corvo Ecomuseum dedicated on the promotion of local heritage with community intervention in the smallest part of Portuguese territory.
This issue also features an important sound collection concerning the ethnographic and ethnological traditions of the Azores, which was collected half a century ago by American researcher Joanne Purcell. The CulturAçores - Cultural Magazine issue 11 is available online on the DRC portal at www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
The date was marked by the DRC with the creation of a database that preserves and opens to research the rich oral tradition and identity of the archipelago.
Moreover, the magazine also addresses the new work on Natália Correia, "A Commitment to Humanity. Essay on Published and Unpublished Works," which brings to light original manuscripts by this important Azorean writer and poet, reflecting on her uncompromising defence of civic, cultural and heritage rights.
Since its launch in 2014, CulturAçores - Cultural Magazine promotes and disseminates cultural projects, activities and events, supported by or related to the Azores, namely those developed by the various services under the supervision of this Regional Directorate.
Published in printed version and digital format on a semi-annual basis, CulturAçores - Cultural Magazine is available for purchase or subscription on the Cultura Açores portal, at www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt, focusing on a publicity campaign that reaches about 800 cultural entities.
