"Elephant" magazine highlights "The Risible Enigma of Normal Life" exhibition at Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre
The "Elephant" magazine, one of the most respected international publications on contemporary art and visual culture, has recently published an article by Mark Durden and David Campbell, curators of the exhibition entitled "The Risible Enigma of Normal Life." The latter is open to the public at Arquipélago - Contemporary Art Centre since September 15.
In this exhibition, curators present the multiple forms of comedy through contemporary art.
It brings together artists from different political and cultural backgrounds, all interested in humour as a device they use to liven up their artistic practices and connect with local and international audiences. "The Risible Enigma of Normal Life" explores how artists reflect about their experience of everyday life to warn of cultural specificities in an increasingly globalised world.
In addition to video works, installations, paintings and photographs, "The Risible Enigma of Normal Life" features a remarkable sculptural installation by Richard Hughes, who became, according to the curators, the centrepiece of the exhibition.
