The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive, in partnership with Angra do Heroísmo City Hall promotes the presence of the itinerant library in the Parish Council of Terra Chã.
The "Library in the Villages” initiative is service aimed at the diversification of the book offer upon a loan service in villages.
The itinerant library operates from Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM; it closes between 12 and 1 PM.
The project intends to relocate the library's presence by bringing it to the populations residing in the villages of Angra do Heroísmo municipality with the aim of disseminating home loan services. It will allow the elderly or people with reduced mobility to have equal access to the books available for home loan, upon request, and under the same conditions as those provided by the Library. In this context, the initiative stimulates the interest in books and reading, and disseminates within the community.
So far, the Parish Councils that have taken up the challenge are as follows: Altares with 9 registrations and 23 loans, Serreta with three registrations and seven loans, S. Bartolomeu with two registrations and four loans, and Doze Ribeiras with 13 registrations and 37 loans.
In addition to Terra Chã, which hosts the initiative during the month of September, the itinerant library has already travelled to the Parish Councils of Posto Santo, Ribeirinha, Porto Judeu, Feteira and S. Sebastião.
