Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library in Angra do Heroísmo presents "Vitorino Nemésio: the fibres of Azorean torpor"
The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive in Angra do Heroísmo, opens the exhibition entitled "Vitorino Nemésio: the fibres of Azorean torpor" next Friday, September 14, at 6:30 PM. The event includes a conference to be delivered by António Machado Pires.
On the 40th anniversary of the death of one of the greatest figures in contemporary Portuguese literature, the Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive marks the date with an exhibition and the launch of a catalogue in the year celebrating the anniversary of the first editions of some of his most significant works.
In 2018, we mark the 50th anniversary of the first edition of "Violão de Morro" and "Caatinga e Terra Caída: Viagens no Nordeste e no Amazonas" as well as the 60th anniversary of the publication of the works "Conhecimento de Poesia" and "O Retrato do Semeador."
This year, we also celebrate the 80th anniversary of the first edition of "O Bicho Harmonioso."
The exhibition features these works as well as other editions published at later dates. It will also provide visitors with the opportunity to become acquainted with books from Vitorino Nemésio's personal book collection mentioned throughout his works. Many of them contain annotations, comments or highlighted excerpts, and even the autograph of the respective authors.
Moreover, the exhibition, open to the public until February 28, includes manuscripts of some of the poems that make up the work "Violão de Morro." The featured manuscripts belong to Vitorino Nemésio's literary estate.
The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of the CulturAçores Portal at the following address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
