Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library in Angra do Heroísmo promotes "Os Refugiantes" exhibition by Rui Caria
The Regional Directorate for Culture, through the Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive in Angra do Heroísmo, opens the photography exhibition entitled "Os Refugiantes" (The refugees) by Rui Caria next Thursday, March 1, at 6 PM.
This exhibition will be open to the public until April 30. It is based a series of photographs that Rui Caria collected in the Triton mission of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency - FRONTEX, conducted between Lampedusa and Tunisia. It depicts the problem of migration under inhumane conditions in an unequal struggle for survival.
The collection, which is now publicly displayed for the first time, received an honourable mention in the "International Photographer of the Year 2017" competition and is a finalist in the "FEP competition- European Federation's "Professional Photographer of the Year Awards 2018," an initiative promoted by Federation of European Photographers; the results will be announced in Ireland by the end of March.
Rui Caria, who has been living in Terceira since 2005, has developed his professional career in the audiovisual area. In the 1990s, he directed short commercials films.
He was a correspondent for TVI channel as a reporter and video editor. Currently, he is a correspondent for SIC channel in the Azores also as reporter and video editor.
The work of Rui Caria won the Silver Camera in the 2016 competition promoted by the Federation of European Photographers. His works are featured in several national and international photography books as well as in publications such as the Telegraph, Daily Mail, Metro New York and the Metro Luxembourg.
