Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library promotes meeting with writer Possidónio Cachapa
The Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive in Angra do Heroísmo continues the cycle designated as "Meet the Writer" next Friday and Saturday, highlighting the literary works of Possidónio Cachapa and the presentation of his recent book: "Eu sou a Árvore."
On Friday, November 18, the meeting that takes place at 11 AM is directed to 9th and 10th form students attending Jerónimo Emiliano de Andrade Secondary School. In turn, the meeting scheduled for the following day is open to the public in general; it will be held at Luís da Silva Ribeiro Library at 5 PM.
The presentation session the work "Eu sou a Árvore" will be made by João Avelar, teacher and coordinator of Almeida Garret Scholar Library at Jerónimo Emiliano de Andrade Secondary School.
Seven years after publishing "O Mundo Branco do Rapaz Coelho" and 18 years after launching "Materna Doçura," his best-known novel, Possidónio Cachapa returns to novels, after having worked in film, namely in the documentary about Urbano Tavares Rodrigues, "O Adeus à Brisa," and the film "Nylon da Minha Aldeia."
Writer, screenwriter and director Possidónio Cachapa was born in Évora and spent part of his teenage years in Praia da Vitória on the island of Terceira.
His work, which includes novels, short stories, chronicles, children's books and plays, has been translated in many countries. It also the subject of international university theses and adaptations to various artistic genres.
"Eu Sou a Árvore" is a work that portrays Portugal since the 1960s, through the evolution of its characters and the way they are linked to the land and nature in general.
