The Regional Directorate for Culture, through the Angra do Heroísmo Museum, resumes the "Conferences at Boa Nova" cycle at Manuel Coelho Baptista de Lima Military History Centre with a lecture delivery by Paulo Santos on Portuguese Navy swords, sabres and daggers next Wednesday, December 6, at 8 PM.
After researching for more than two years, the lecturer will present about 30 models of swords and 12 models of daggers used in the Portuguese Navy, dating from the 18th century to the present day.
Despite the different types, origins and manufacturing processes, these swords generally reveal a significant British influence. Nevertheless, they show some characteristics and aesthetic details that are typical of Portuguese armament.
At the end of the conference, Paulo Santos, who is a member of the Navy Academy, conducts a guided tour to the former Boa Nova Hospital. On the occasion, the exhibition rooms and the reserved collections of uniforms, light and heavy weapons will be open to the public between 8 and 11 PM.
The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of CulturAçores Portal at the following address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt
